Michael Moore Calls Capitalism ‘Evil’

In Hollywood, Movies, Politics on September 7, 2009 at 6:15 pm

small_moorefilm(1).jpgMichael Moore solidified his position as one of the biggest phonies of our times while at a recent Venice Film Festival outing.

He debuted his latest sham documentary called “Capitalism: A Love Story.”

Thanks to the free enterprise system, Moore has become super wealthy, which makes the two-hour flick a case study in hypocrisy.

“Capitalism is an evil,” Moore proclaims, “and you cannot regulate evil.”

According to Moore, regulating capitalism doesn’t work, so his prescription is, “You have to eliminate it and replace it with something that is good for all people and that something is democracy.”

Guess it all depends on what the meaning of “democracy” is.

Fidel, Hugo, Van, Nancy, and Harry might have a similar definition. Someday someone might ask the president what his is.

In any event, the flimflam filmmaker even stoops so low as to bring in some liberation theology clergy to endorse the idea that capitalism is actually anti-Christian…

Denzel Washington to Play Obama in Biopic

In Celebrities, Hollywood, Politics on July 26, 2009 at 8:31 pm

President Obama has expressed his wish that if a movie were ever made about him, he would want the starring role to be given to Will Smith.

Part of the reason for the Smith preference has to do with the size and shape of both men’s hearing appendages.

Casting, though, is an unpredictable activity particularly when the movie role is that of a current president.

According the U.K. Daily Mail, Smith isn’t going to get the Obama part, but instead it’s going to go to Denzel Washington.

The Oscar winner reportedly wanted the role and Obama has apparently given his approval.

“It was at the President’s suggestion,” Denzel said.

The actor did additionally mention one potential issue that may have to be addressed by the make up artist.

“The only problem is he has bigger ears than me,” Denzel divulged.

Wanda Sykes Us Out

In Hollywood, Politics on May 10, 2009 at 9:46 pm

Who chose Wanda Sykes to be the featured comic at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner?

Maybe it was the same person who set up the Scare Force One photo op.

The dinner traditionally dishes out humor at the president’s expense.

But Sykes used her moment in the D.C. spotlight to attack conservatives.

She began her routine with a few jokes about President Obama that were actually not-so-veiled compliments.

Not known for her subtlety, she went on to blast talk radio biggies Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and toss cow pies at former Vice President Dick Cheney.

Her jabs at Rush were the harshest and most disingenuous and had no place at the time-honored event.

Sykes falsely “joked” that Limbaugh said he hopes America fails, and she accused him of treason.

She recklessly compared Rush’s comments to those of Osama bin Laden and used the #1 talk radio host’s name and “highjacker” in the same lame joke.

She went on to express, as pathetic liberals are prone to do, her desire that he experience life threatening health problems.

For Hannity, she hypocritically encouraged the use on him of what the Left has deemed “torture” and included a snide remark for bad measure.

When it came to Cheney, Sykes hid behind her lazy wisecracks but inadvertently revealed how unoriginal she really is.

Still, the Hollywood, D.C. crowd (which included Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Natalie Portman, Jonathan Rhys Myers, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes as well as Brian Williams, Helen Thomas, Barbara Walters, Wolf Blitzer and other mainstream media big shots) chortled approvingly.

And according to Variety, White House senior adviser David Axelrod called Sykes “very entertaining.”

Very insidious is more like it.

Lindsay Lohan: ‘I’ve Been a Target’

In Celebrities, entertainment, Hollywood, Movies, Show Business on April 26, 2009 at 10:03 pm

In what appears to be a pity ploy, Lindsay Lohan recently tried to explain why she’s having trouble finding work.

It’s not the ailing economy or any mistake she herself may have made.

No, according to Lindsay, she’s a victim of a media conspiracy.

In a recent appearance on the “Ellen” show, the “Mean Girls” star spoke of a specific gig she had lost.

“I had a really good opportunity with an amazing actor and it’s been put on hold because of this coverage that’s been coming out,” Lohan contended.

Somewhat disgusted, she added, “I didn’t get into this to be a celebrity on the cover of tabloids and I’ve been a target and I’m not that interesting but it’s distracting; it distracts people, studio heads, everyone – they get nervous.”

Someone should tell Lindsay that when execs read reports of eating disorders, drug abuse and unstable relationships, it’s their job to get nervous.

Still trying to make her case, Lohan had a message for her prospective Tinseltown employers.

“I’m ready to work and I’m responsible,” she said.

Movie Outing

In entertainment, Hollywood, Politics on April 12, 2009 at 8:41 pm

A new documentary is set to premiere at the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival, and it’s likely to cause consternation at the nation’s capital.

The promotional poster for the movie describes it as “a searing expose of the secret lives of closeted gay politicians.”

Although the film will purportedly feature familiar gay pols such as Barney Frank, its primary aim is to publicly reveal closeted Republicans who have taken a stand in defense of traditional marriage.

Its publicity slogan is “Do ask, do tell.”

Colleagues of mine who have seen the rough cut tell me that the film will feature politicians who haven’t previously been “outed.”

Kirby Dick directed it. He also made “This Film Is Not Yet Rated,” which ticked off the MPAA.

The executive producer is well-known Left Coast political advisor to the stars Chad Griffin, who was also an advisor for California’s No on Proposition 8 campaign.

Robert Redford’s Sundance Institute produced it, and Magnolia Pictures will be the distributor.

The version of the movie that’s been shown to selected critics is far from finished, and filmmakers are avoiding revealing the identities of politicians who will supposedly be outed.

In any case, the movie is poised to get lots of publicity, which is just what the creators wanted all along.

Obama’s PR Team Boosts Rush Limbaugh’s Ratings

In Hollywood, Politics on March 15, 2009 at 7:38 pm

The Obama White House has inadvertently done something for Rush Limbaugh that the best media operatives in the world would give their Fendi shades to be able to do for their clients.

After picking the conservative icon to be its Alinski-style target, the Screwtape Squad has almost doubled Rush’s already staggering radio ratings.

We can only imagine that the “geniuses” will try and pin the idea on the other guy-Rahm will blame it on Gibbs, Axelrod will lay it on Biden, Geithner will cuss out Holder, etc.

The attempt to make Rush the leader of the GOP has resulted in more folks than ever being educated about true conservative principles.

Talkers magazine shows Limbaugh’s weekly audience has shot up from 14.2 million to about 25 million since he was targeted by the bumbling media masterminds.

But the icing on the cake is that fewer people will now buy the idea that Rush is a ***! (Fill-in-the-lefty blank).

In an unrelated bit of unsubstantiated rumor, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Committee on Tolerance and Compassion plans to eliminate a previous designation that had been used to describe Hollywood actors, directors and producers who were self-proclaimed Republicans.

Based on current policy changes being implemented by the Obama administration and international law, now even conservatives, Christians and Southern white males who are known to have strong to loose ties with the GOP Party will no longer have to wear the “enemy combatant” label.

A spokesperson for the Academy stated that the change of moniker was the result of an extensive review of policy relating to those with “out of favor” ideology.

“The policy alteration that we have made today meets with our standards and will serve to make our industry stronger and justicier,” spokesperson R.U. Kidding said.

As a result of the new terminology, Hollywood GOP-ers will now be referred to as “unemployed detainees.”

Madonna and A-Rod on Adoption Flight to Malawi?

In Celebrities, entertainment, Hollywood, law on December 22, 2008 at 11:58 am

Madonna is reportedly going back to the impoverished nation of Malawi to adopt another child.

This time she’s taking baseball slugger Alex Rodriguez along with her.

Only months after splitting with spouse Guy Ritchie, the material girl has reportedly signed documents for an additional Malawi adoption.

In 2006 Madonna adopted son David Banda, while reports circulated about alleged objections by the birth father and protests by human rights organizations.

The new child is a four-year-old girl named Mercy James. Mercy’s 18-year-old mother apparently died 18 days after she was born.

Earlier reports indicated that Madonna and Ritchie had been interested in adopting the child months ago.

Mercy’s grandfather told Star Magazine, “It breaks our hearts to know she will leave us, but adoption is best for her.”

Davi Creates Compelling Entertainment with ‘Dukes’

In Celebrities, entertainment, Hollywood, Movies, Uncategorized on November 20, 2008 at 12:25 pm

“The Dukes” brings back elements of cinema entertainment sorely lakcing from the current Hollywood fare.

Even if you don’t know the difference between Doo Wop and Hip Hop, it is worth your time to catch Robert Davi’s directorial debut of “The Dukes.”

Here’s the little movie that could, a potent directing debut for actor Robert Davi.

The old-fashioned story is aided by surprisingly smooth direction, as well as likable performances from Davi himself, Chazz Palmintieri, and a perfectly cast Peter Bogdanovich.

“The Dukes” is a wry comic tale of a down-and-out Doo Wop band who take a bumbling detour into burglary in their endless quest to make good on their dreams. Featuring an accomplished ensemble cast and the directorial debut of beloved tough-guy actor Robert Davi, the film is a rollicking caper that is also deeply candid about life, love, friendship and the heart it takes to keep on struggling to find meaning and connection as life takes one absurd turn after another. Punctuated by a retro rock n roll soundtrack, the fun begins as The Dukes – once hit-makers in the 1960s– are barely making ends meet in 2007. Band leader Danny DePasquale (ROBERT DAVI, “Die Hard,” “License To Kill,” “The Goonies”) is horrified by the fact that he can’t even afford to help his ex-wife fix his darling son’s teeth. Meanwhile, his partner, George Zucco (Academy Award® nominee CHAZZ PALMINTERI, “Bullets Over Broadway,” “A Bronx Tale”), drowns his financial sorrows by indulging his passion for plus-size women.

Even as their manager, Lou Fiola (Academy Award® nominated director-producer-writer-actor PETER BOGDANOVICH), searches to find gigs for an act that has gone utterly obsolete, Danny and George take jobs in their feisty Aunt Vee’s (MIRIAM MARGOLYES, “Being Julia,” “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”) Italian trattoria. The Dukes are determined to resurrect their flagging hopes and self-esteems. They daydream of money-making schemes that would allow them to build an updated Doo Wop nightclub from which they could stage a fresh comeback. Then, opportunity knocks. When they hear of a shady dentist’s lab brimming with cavity-filling gold, the temptation is irresistible. After recruiting a semipro safecracker (Emmy winner BRUCE WEITZ, “Hill Street Blues”), the heist is on!

‘Commander in Chief’ Creator Rod Lurie Seeks Veep Candidate Credit

In Celebrities, Culture, Hollywood, Politics on September 2, 2008 at 8:03 am

Rod Lurie, creator of ABC’s 2005 television series, “Commander in Chief,” attended the Democratic National Convention and cheered for his candidate of choice, Barack Obama.

The producer then gave his assessment of John McCain’s pick for vice president.

“People who understand politics know anything is possible,” Lurie told the Hollywood Reporter.

“Picking a woman is an absolute strategic idea from McCain’s point of view. He’s not talking about governing right now. The idea of this woman [Palin] actually facing down Putin and negotiating with Medvedev is idiotic,” he added.

In the pilot for Lurie’s cancelled TV show, an experienced GOP presidential candidate chose a young unknown woman to be his running mate.

“It’s unbelievable isn’t it?” Lurie asked. “I think that Geena [Davis] and I need to be paid royalties by the Republicans.”

After Davis’ character succeeded to the White House, she was criticized for lack of experience. But the TV prez proved her detractors wrong.

The dismissal of Palin’s experience by the Dems and many in the mainstream media is unseemly, especially in the light of Obama’s thin resume and the media’s lack of perusal.

Palin definitely has defenders such as America’s mayor Rudy Giuliani, who while appearing on “Face the Nation” praised the former two term mayor, conservation commission chair and current governor of Alaska, and pointed out that when talking about the readiness issue, Obama is the one who has “never run a city, he’s never run a state, he’s never run a business, he’s never administered a payroll, he’s never led people in crisis.”

Giuliani also noted that Obama “had to put all that emphasis on somebody [Biden] helping him because he’s never had a record of executive experience.”
